Who's playin' what?
Good morning all. Nice show indeed. On Race is on and Wake up L. Suzie both Bob and Jerry are playing acoustic with Jerry refraining from any lead work. Most likely Nelson playing the electric there. On New Speedway it's obviously Jerry back on electric and Nelson moved to acoustic as I can hear the 2nd acoustic in the right channel.
Sometimes difficult to hear a 2nd acoustic because of the similar sounding acoustic strumming and snare drum stroke frequencies. Johnny Cash used the dollar bill under the strings to simulate a snare sound when he played with out drums for the same effect.
Nelson to mandolin on Cold Jordan.
Enjoy the fall colors if reading this today 10/21/09

I recommend adding this show to your 1970 GRATEFUL DEAD collection.
Anything with Pigpen is a Treasure.
Get while it you can, get it while it's free, get it now or you'll be sorry.
Eat, Drink, be Merry and listen to the GRATEFUL DEAD.
Thanks for the love.
P.S. Realplayer is recommended by the Internet Archive for listening and downloading.

Totally... Stop putting this kind of info in the forums. If you want to learn how to get stuff, do your own research elsewhere. Just go to this site and play it through your stereo, it will save you the time and money.
As for this show, just started lstening to it. Excellent sound quality. More to follow...

stop these discussions about burning
Those who discuss ways to burn from these SBD sources on this forum are risking losing what access we ALL have to them. If you want us to lose this incredible resource, just keep it up. I disagree with the rules too, but be happy with what you've got, or at leaast discuss it elesewhere.

As for recording these shows - download the RM Downlader tool - saves streams to MP3's. Worth the license fee

OK, you guys, I figured out how to capture the streaming audio. Spud8...the second guitar is, in fact, David Nelson. oReOs & opened_mind...my e-mail address is rumrunner1951@yahoo.com. Get in touch. Tom209...I think we probably have some stories to share. Same e-mail as above. captainkid...you're right about the NRPS part of the show. Gotten any leads? purplereba...I can confirm that this is the Alfred show. Again, see above e-mail address. This was one of the greatest shows by the greatest rock and roll band that ever put pick to guitar. And I know...I was there and saw what happened next...

Who plays 2nd acoustic??
Right from the beginning of Race Is On, one can easily notice theres 2 acoustic guitars (each in the L/R channels) PLUS Jerry on the electric strat. The acoustic on the Right channel seems to be Bobby. …Since neither deadlists nor deadbase present any info on it, I was wondering if anyone here could identify the other player? …The guy picks cool bluegrass licks, like Jerry-style, so I was thinking it can only be David Nelson. …Anyone know for sure?

What an amazing set. (The sound quality could be better) I may be biased because I went to Alfred and the Happy Valley will hold a place in my heart forever.
Rumrunner -- I can help you. I wanna' hear about the show. Do you know how do contact each other through this board?

Grateful for further.net
This and other SBDs are still available for download at further.net - It takes longer than at this site, but they are worth the wait. The stream sounds really good, so I started to DL.

Alfred great show
This streaming audio rocks when I click on the HiFi link to the left and choose the software to run it. Windows Media Player will get you going, I just got hold of Blaze Media Professional, which my partner feels can capture streaming. Ohh if it is true !!!!!!!! Great crystal clear acoustic set.

from a newbie who was there...
The setlist sures looks like the show I attended during my first year at Alfred. But being the rookie I am & not having figured out how to approach the streaming format, I haven't been able to listen to it. Anybody feel like helping out a clueless deadhead who was there? I can share some pretty interesting stories about that night...My rating is based on what that night did for me!

Response to Purp
Hey Purp,
It has long been thought that these songs were originally played on May 19, 1970 at Washington U, in Missouri.
According to The Deadhead's Taping Compendium (terrific resource btw) that the 5/19/70 show never happened. It was later confirmed by Dick Lavatna that the 5/19/70 show was most likely 5/1/70, from Alfred College, Alfred, NY.
Some reels to this show were found under the stage of a show later in the month (5/14/70 Merrimac CC in Kingsford, Missouri) and a few were lost never to be recovered. :(
Hopefully this helps. ~Willy

Is this real???
I've been looking for this show for over a decade. Deadbase has no setlist. Can anyone actually verify this is really the long lost Alfred show... or it is possible this is just a bunch of tunes from the 70 era put together. If anyone knows any info, please reply here... I'll be checkin' back. Thanks so much.

Alfred College
Is that the school founded by Bruce Wayne's butler ? Anyway. I saw a small school New York venue so I listened and this is really cool. I still get a kick out of people who thought the "Unplugged" series was brand new in the 90's. I agree with all the others !!!Amazing sound here.and a real show of how a band can got from Oooh lala to Pigpen in one night.
